Investment Philosophy

Minimizing risk is the cornerstone of our investment philosophy and is essential when managing non-investment grade credit portfolios.

Four Corners manages its credit products with the goal of delivering high risk-adjusted returns while preserving capital. This requires a disciplined investment process that focuses on risk minimization. The investment process is based on our goals of identifying quality investments, systematically constructing diversified portfolios, and ensuring that our portfolios have sufficient liquidity to react to changing credit and market conditions.

Credit selection is the cornerstone of our investment process. Identifying high quality credit investments requires independent, detailed, thorough, fundamental credit analysis. Four Corners conducts in-depth research on its proposed investments, which it combines with its extensive market experience to identify and analyze attractive investment opportunities.

Disciplined, consistent, systematic portfolio construction and diversification is critical when investing in non-investment grade assets. Four Corners constructs its portfolios and sizes its portfolio positions consistently and systematically to ensure broad diversification and to limit issuer and industry concentrations.

Liquidity focus and sell discipline are particularly important in markets and assets that can be characterized by rapid change, as the non-investment grade markets have been in recent years. In addition to evaluating each investment’s quality and its consistency with portfolio investment objectives, we focus heavily on an asset’s expected liquidity if credit-specific and/or market conditions change, and consider this as a primary factor in our investment decision.
